This took a little more investigation. We are now in the land of Camilleri’s mixture of dialect and his own terms. We may delve deeper into this later.

My understanding is that the word ‘cortiglio‘ is a sicilian dialect word with the same meaning as the italian ‘cortile‘:

cortiglio (sm) = cortile = courtyard
