La Parola del Giorno

La Parola del Giorno

I have set myself the challenge of translating ‘Storia di una Capinera’ by Giovanni Verga into English at the rate of a word a day.

The next new word in the text is  ‘triste’.

My dictionary gives this as:

triste (agg f & g) = sad, glum, melancholy, dismal, depressing, sombre, painful, rueful, wretched

triste is both the feminine an the masculine form of the adjective

Here is an example:

Una donna triste ha la bellezza di un bocciolo = A sad woman has the beauty of a flower bud
