El Pueblo, Plage de Pampelonne, St. Tropez, France

In the summer of 1972, I worked on the beach of Pampelonne near St. Tropez.

El Pueblo is the first restaurant I worked at.

I was as employed as a plongeur i.e washer-upper.

My first job every morning was to clean the beach (plagiste) and set up the beach furniture.

The boss’s name was Michel. He had a German wife who was one of the waitresses. There was another waiter called Nono.
