My Italian word of the day: nel

I have set myself the challenge of translating the romanzo, ‘La forma dell’acqua‘ di Andrea Camilleri into English at the rate of a word a day.

La Parola del Giorno

La Parola del Giorno

The sixth word in the book is ‘nel‘. My dictionary gives this as:

nel (prep & art) = in the, into the

it is made up of two words:

in (prep) = in, into

il (art) = the

When the definite article il is preceded by the preposition in the article and preposition is usually combined in one word nel

and gives as example:

nel giardino = in the garden
