Prince Monolulu was a larger than life character who could be found at England’s Racetracks and street markets (Petticoat Lane, Portobello Road) from the 1930s to the 1960s.

He was a racing tipster whose famous cry was: “I gotta horse! I gotta horse!”.

He could also be regularly seen on the streets of London particularly Fitzrovia.

When we lived around the Tottenham Court Road he would talk to my Mum and me (in pram, pushchair or walking).

His real name was Peter Carl Mackay and he came from Guyana.

For a while there was a pub named after him in Maple Street.
