Dante Gabriel Rossetti was born in London.
He was the son of Gabrielle Rossetti a poet.
His mother was Frances Mary Lavinia Polidori Rossetti the sister of Dr. John Polidori, Byron’s physician.
He studied at King’s College London and Cary’s Art Academy.
In 1848 he founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with John Everett Millais, Holman Hunt, and others.
In Rossetti’s early pictures, his wife, the beautiful Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal, was the model for his ideal lady.
Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal also modelled for many of his circle. She was the model for Millais’ Ophelia.
He was also a poet. The only complete manuscript of his poetry was buried with his wife. This was later recovered.
