Dawes Windrush (1961)

In 1961, I passed my 11 plus and was given a secondhand Dawes Windrush by my Uncle Tony.

It was a beautiful bike with a double clanger and four cogs giving it 8 gears.

It was good on hills. I cycled up the Archway and Highgate and back again.

I cycled all over London filling in my I-Spy book of London as I went.

My uncle had got the bike from a mate of his who he worked with at Ediswan (Edison Swan) Cables in Lydbrook.
